Google Duo Latest Feature. As the world is experiencing lockdown, social distancing during the coronavirus crisis, Google has increased the number of people in a group call from 8 to 12 on its Duo app. The announcement was made by the company’s senior director of product and design, Sanaz Ahari on Twitter.
We are grateful that Duo is helping users see their loved ones all around the world. We recognize group calling is particularly critical right now. We have increased group calling from 8 participants to 12 effective today. More to come.

It is a server-side update. You do not need to update your app from stores. You will be able to add 12 people to a group chat just close the app and open it again. Duo provides outstanding quality of video and voice.
The number of participants is still less than Skype. 50 People Can Now Participate in Video Chat in a Skype Group.
